Anonymous Labs and Banijay Rights have partnered to bring the Peaky Blinders TV show to the blockchain as a web3 game. The game is scheduled for release in 2025 and it’ll give players a chance to visit “the streets of” Birmingham post the Second World War, offer interactive sessions, and an in-game currency. The game’s creators said that the move is meant to increase how fans connect with their favorite brands and embrace “the future of digital entertainment,” a sign that fans increasingly prefer interacting with brands in a virtual environment.
Crypto coins Peaky Blinders Is a “Cultural Phenomenon”
Banijay Rights’ David Christopher described the TV series as a “cultural phenomenon.” Anonymous Labs’ Joris Van Velzen and Wojciech Gruszka said the game is likely to become a hit owing to the success of the Simon’s Cat project. For context, Anonymous Labs led the creation of a memecoin inspired by the Simon’s Cat cartoon series.
The two Anonymous Labs executives noted that creating a Peaky Blinders-inspired blockchain game “shows that major IP brands are embracing blockchain as the future.” They added that the move is part of their mission to shape “the next era of web3 IPs in a way” that accommodates loyal fans and “a new generation alike.”
Crypto coins Six Seasons in Nine Years
The TV show aired for nine years on BBC with the last episode airing in 2022. The show had six seasons and is currently available on Netflix. Anonymous Labs and Banijay Rights are yet to reveal specific details about the game, including its token mechanics and whether in-game assets will be tradable.
The announcement comes less than a month after Sony converted Netflix’s Seven Deadly Sins into NFTs. It also comes a few days after Ubisoft announced a web3 card game.
With Peaky Blinders entering the web3 world, other popular TV shows will likely follow the same path to connect with their fans and to stay relevant.
