Solana memecoin launchpad Pump.fun has confirmed the launch and sale of its official token, PUMP, through an initial coin offering (ICO) starting July 12 to July 15. PUMP will have a total supply of one trillion tokens, with 33% sold during the ICO and the rest allocated to community initiatives (24%), the project core team (20%), and investors (13%). The ICO will be held on major exchanges and tokens sold on a first-come, first-served basis, with each token retailing at $.004, bringing the total targeted ICO amount to $1.32 billion.

According to an X thread, PUMP will be “the official native token of the Pump.fun protocols” that will help boost the platform’s growth. Pump.fun said the token “will be fully functional at launch.” The launchpad noted that it’s considering offering fee rebates and conducting token buybacks to popularize and strengthen PUMP.

Apart from the community, team, ICO, and investors, the memecoin protocol will allocate 2.4% of the total tokens to an ecosystem fund and “2% for the foundation.” The platform will also use 2.6% of the tokens to provide liquidity on exchanges and 3% to support its livestreaming feature.
Pump.fun clarified that tokens will “initially be non-transferable” for 48-72 hours after the token sale ends. It also said that the PUMP ICO event doesn’t support US and UK residents. The six exchanges hosting the ICO event are Kucoin, Kraken, Bybit, Bitget, Gate, and MEXC.
Bitcoin Pump.fun Targets $1 Billion
Pump.fun’s PUMP token launch and sale confirmation comes a month after speculations emerged that the memecoin launchpad is planning to raise $1 billion through a token sale. It also comes two days after data showed that LetsBonk, a memecoin platform, had surpassed Pump.fun’s 24-hour revenue.
With Pump.fun launching an official token, it’s to be seen whether the crypto community will treat the token as a memecoin or one with long-term value.
